MG MGF Technical - Hood bolt sheared

Hi, Dropped the mgf's roof down (1996) and noticed it looked wonky (technical term). Put the roof back up and BUGGER the roof appears to have collasped on one side. The main bar on the drivers side has a large bolt going into a bracket then into the body work behind the drivers seat head rest. This bolt has snapped off. Can You Buy replacement roof frame parts??
I belived it may of been damaged from the previous week has I didn't secure the roof down proberly and it came open at 80mph bending it slightly.

Any suggestions welcome or website with roof diagrams.

Try the MGF Centre - I am sure they will be able to suuply a new or nearly new part to suit.

might be worth replacing the whole roof as if it came open at 80 there could be other damage apart from the snapped bolt. MGFC I believe sell 2nd hand roofs so could be worth ringing them. The other option is to by a new bolt from any decent hardware store taking the current one with you to get correct length and thread.

If it is one of the two bolts going through the hardtop bracket, body bracket into the Hood pivot, then it is a body part from your dealer or a 10mm bolt from B&Q.
If it is one of the brass bushed pivot bolts, then I probably have one as I stripped a frame to use the rear bar to support the Hard Top without a soft top fitted.

Midland MGF is your nearest breakers for any small bits at negligible prices or cheapest for the bigger bits.

I think I know the stepped bolt you refer to - I've been there, done that too! I bought 2 new bolts from Rover at vast expense (IIRC they are over a tenner EACH) but the hood was never the same again so we ended up with a replacement hood from MGF Centre. If you want a bolt then drop me an email...

If it is a stepped pivot bolt, then the end of the bolt is probably welded to lock it, When removing them I found that considerable force was required to break the weld or the bolt sheared first. The weld will require to be ground away with a small wheel in order to screw out the broken bolt.

Hi, right I like the sound of the B&Q alternative thats got to be cheaper than rover. I will have a go this weekend I think the hardest part will be drilling out the snapped bolt and re threading but it's got to be cheaper than a roof.

Cheers for the help folks
