How much should I pay to have my hood cleaned and re coloured

There are a number of products on the market such as Renovo (?spelling) that are simple to use, very effective and will only cost you a few bob - plus they do not need vast DIY skills or facilities.

I think the point Brian and Ted are making is that it is as easy as cleaning your car.

There are a number of products available from most reputable car outlets, Renovo is but one.

You have shampoo, although I just wash mine with normal car shampoo, and if you wish to re-dye you simply brush a liquid dye over the hood and it's done.

DIY ? This really is within the realms of most people I would have thought, there's nothing to be afraid of here.

Perhaps I should have given you mor info

car lives on the street , under trees sometimes i've tried two DIY things ( cabrio& auto glym) but can't lift the green muck out .

Found a valet guy he is proposing a jet wash, use of a "special soap" then dye.

I'm a bit sceptical re the jet wash.

Cheers again DB

DB,

My car lives on the street & is also prone to the 'green muck' - which I find tends to collect around the seams of the hood. I do believe this is a common problem.

Last year I used the Renovo kit. It consists of a canvas cleaner, reviver, proofer and rear screen polish.

I found the cleaner to be very effective - with a bit of elbow grease & a toothbrush - soon gets rid of all that nasty green muck. You then paint on the reviver which renews the colour of your hood and also the proofer which will re-waterproof your hood.

I thought it was very effective and after using all the products the roof was looking almost brand new. It's not too costly and just takes a little time and effort.

I would agree about the jetwash - steer clear.

Hope this helps,

Only prob with Renovo (which I have used for 3 years now) is that the REVIVER is only in a limited range of colours. My black hood always looked like new after treatment. My green hood doesn't show the green muck quite so much but cannot be 'revived'.

Black, blue, brown I believe.

thanks again you grand people

Fiona once I get it cleaned I'm going to use a storm hood I bought earlier this year, to save the hood cost around £30.
