MG MGF Technical - hood rear window zip repairs
Ive got a 96 'F with the original hood. The zip that zips the window into place has done that annoying thing that zips do and now wont work. My dealer has quoted me over £300 to repair it. Anyone have any better ideas? Are the later model hoods better? If so might I just as well get a new hood from B&G / Mike Satur?

Marc, I had the whole rear window replaced for £80 by Pounds in Baldock. HTH Cheers Kieren

Yep mines just started doing that when the hoods clipped down and the screen is tight. Have you tried loosening the fabric by opening the hood slightly and then man handling it back together? Will

Marc, both B&G and Mike Satur will sell you a complete rear screen including all you need to replace the zip. I got the kit from B&G for £160ish + postage and fitted it myself, however both places will fit it for an extra sum. I had terrible problems with Pounds of Baldock, they had two goes at supplying a rear window to me and both were faulty, i'm still trying to get my original money back from the after over 2 months of ringing and writing to them (I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM). Also they just stitch in a new window and do not replace the zip.

Richb, yep Fred is a nice guy, but my mistake was to go mail order which he had never done before (and is unlikely to ever do again!). I finally got my £40 back yesterday, but the total cost to me of replacing my window (which was just scratched not split), was £7 contribution to his postage, plus £14 my postage, plus £189 rear window and surround overnighted to me from B&G. The car was off the road 4 weeks while he messed around (luckily i didn't need it), however i finally had to get the screen from B&G as i needed the car to go on holiday (first day of which i had to cancel due to Pounds yet again sending a faulty window - too small, only found this out after I had fully riveted it in!).
