MG MGF Technical - How much Coolant
Hi Guys, Can you help ? This may seem silly but I am have just bought my first MGF. Trouble is I can't find the max level for the water coolant .. is it to the lip ? Also is it ok to top it up with 'Halfords Antifreeze and Coolant mixture ? Please help ! |

Richard The Max/min level is actually inside the expansion bottle. not the easiest thing to see. Its actually easier just to fill it up halfway, ie fill up to the seam. If its just topping up a small amount, which I would hope it is (ie there's still some coolant in the expansion tank) I'd just top up with water, you aren't going to dilute your system too much. Hope this helps Paul |

Thanks Paul I found your comments quite useful. I've been a mgf owner for 1 week and could't find the level either. Cheers! PJ |

Welcome aboard PJ :o) Complete agree with Paul's answer: fill to the moulding flashing around the edge of the tank, and top up with water. Enjoy the F - the top down weather is approaching! :o) |

Cheers Guys, Think I've got it under control now .. I hope. What coolant would you recommend and do I need to bleed the system first before putting it in ? Rich |
Richard |
Richard, The cooling system only needs bleeding if it has been drained, or run "seriously" low on coolant, as for which, The type depends on the age of the car as the MG recommendations change around MY2000, read the handbook for the specification of coolant you require, unless you want to replace all the coolant, topping up with tap water occasionally, should the level drop below the seam, would be fine.
