MG MGF Technical - Hydragas pump (again)
I searched the archives and found loads of stuff on these, but nothing to answer my question. Does anyone know where I can borrow/hire/scrounge one of these in the North Lincolnshire area (willing to travel a little way to pick it up nad return it). Alternatively, does anyone know of one for sale? BTW it's not for an F (we have a TF), it's for my metro (metrocup race car). |

Other than virtually any small 1- or 2-man car repair businesses, I only know of Andy Phillips who maintains one on behalf of the Esssex Roadsters. May be worth contacting him after the Treffen. |

A good excuse to visit the Beaulieu Autojumble on 10th/11th September to find one. Geoff F. |

I have one . I got so sick of MG dealerships not getting it right I invested in one. The manufacturer is based in Scotland and advertises on the web. There are two types - Cheapest around £180 which if you plan to keep your MGF for a very long time is worth the money. In my experience a dealer will charge £45-£50 each time you go to have the suspension altered. |

At £180 you could look to get some back with a 'pump yoyr netro up in the paddock' business. |

Try Ron Hart 01598 763572. Very basic pump no pressure gauge but you can add your own. About £75, I've got one, they work. As you said it saves time and pays for itself. |

I phoned around and it didn't take long to find a backstreet garage that had one, £20 to hire for 24hrs and it came with plenty of fluid. |

BLOOMSGATE MOTORS in Ripon, N Yorks have one and charged me £30. Ripon is not to bad a place to visit and its close to the A1, nestled inbetween the Moors. Sutton Bank is worth bezzing up as long as some nugget in a lorry hasnt got stuck 1/2 way up. |

Has anyone got the specs for the attachment at the end of the hose which fits on to the car? Would be interested as we coiuld manufacture such a pump with this knowledge Regards David |

The connection to the car can be easily done by using an flexible tyre extension for trucks as used on deep rims. Any tyre-supplier will have these for a nominal fee ;O). Lots and lots of info on Dieters page,(as usual!) We built our own pumps a long time ago, cheap and useful.Stay well clear of the original fluid as the anti-corrosion is non-existent! / Carl. |

David, Dieters site has instructions on how to make a pump yourself as well as pictures of several diy pumps. |

Thanks Guys - heading for Dieters site now regards David |

>Stay well clear of the original fluid as the anti-corrosion is non-existent! / Carl.> I have mixed my own "hydra fluid", however it would be interesting to learn what´s your actual recipe Carl. Mike |

>Stay well clear of the original fluid as the anti-corrosion is non-existent! / Carl.> Really ? I am using the original fluid and thought it was OK. |
Erik |
Have a look at Dieter´s site and the picture of the original steel container as well as a cut hydragas sphere. Also note what happends to the pump if any fluid is left in the system ;O) ! I use anti-freeze (glykol for mixing in the coolant),pure alcohol 96%,denauted is OK and de-ionided water,(same as for car batteries etc.) One part of each is my recipy,I think there is some info also at Dieter´s that differs somewhat. But really no problem, the anti-freeze contains the much needed anti-rust formula. For normal topping up the system etc. 0,5 L is more than enough. / Carl. |
Carl |
I use two parts of glykol anti-freeze and one part of alcohol 96% only. I do not add any water to avoid rust. |
