MG MGF Technical - ignition coils mgf i
Hi all, Does any one know where the ignition coils for the 18i are located? Are they part of the plug cap? Regards Mike D |

As far as i can recall they are under the cover where the spark plugs are BUT they are not the plug caps. Looking from the top the coils are more to the left |

Hi Andrew, thanks for that I have not removed the cover yet so did not see the coils I am looking at replacing leads so just wanted to make sure. Cheers mike |

The location of the coil(s) on the MPi depends on the age of the car. EU2 cars - those manuafactured before 2001, have a single coil that is located under the inlet manifold. Later EU3 cars have individual coils above each spark plug. The two versions of the engine are easily identifiable: the EU3 has a plastic cam cover that is curved along one long side of the cover. The earlier version uses an alloy cam cover, and is much squarer in appearance. Hope this helps |

The two versions of the engine are easily identifiable: one has a distributor and the other one don't. |
