MG MGF Technical - ignition coils mgf i

Hi all,
Does any one know where the ignition coils for the 18i are located? Are they part of the plug cap?

As far as i can recall they are under the cover where the spark plugs are BUT they are not the plug caps. Looking from the top the coils are more to the left

Hi Andrew,
thanks for that I have not removed the cover yet so did not see the coils I am looking at replacing leads so just wanted to make sure.

Cheers mike

The location of the coil(s) on the MPi depends on the age of the car. EU2 cars - those manuafactured before 2001, have a single coil that is located under the inlet manifold. Later EU3 cars have individual coils above each spark plug.

The two versions of the engine are easily identifiable: the EU3 has a plastic cam cover that is curved along one long side of the cover. The earlier version uses an alloy cam cover, and is much squarer in appearance.

Hope this helps

The two versions of the engine are easily identifiable:

one has a distributor and the other one don't.

Thanks Will - LOL - I hit submit before adding that! ;o)
