MG MGF Technical - immoberlizer ..question

Hi,further to my other thread ,does anyone know if the engine immoberlizer can be disarmed permantly without affecting the engine managment??
Thanks
Mel.

yes but.

it can be done by a Rover dealer, or you can source a caturum ECU (which is the same but pre-de-programed) or an emerald.
Will Munns

Or a replacement DIY Megasquirt ECU
Rob Bell

Cheers,
Rob, what is a megasquirt ecu....i think i,m getting out of my depth here !!
One last try and then it,s rover or the local auto elrctrician.

It's a built-it-yourself replacement engine management system Mel... not really a serious option probably, but certainly a good deal cheaper than a brand new off the shelf EU from one of the major ECU manufacturers. :o)
Rob Bell

Booking a TestBook diagnostic seems to be the best plan regardless - the underlying problem may be identified in the fault log, or there may at least be clues...

One question Mel - when you were trying the EKA code, were you starting from locked, and doing an initial lock-then-remove-key stage? That's what triggers the ECU into 'receive' mode, it seems. You then put the key in and start the sequences.
Mike Hankin

Hi,Mike i,ve tried that many different ways now i,ve lost track!!
I,ll give it another try and remove the key prior to the code.
I,ve searched the archives and tried all the methods eg..add one to third digit
add one to 2nd and forth..
etcc...still just get the beep from the horn to indicate a failed access code.
Tried anotherb battery...cleaned all the fob with the contact cleaner..got my battery checked at the local garage ,recharged it over night tried and tried bit still nothing
I,m sure it,s something simple i,m doing wrong ,however i,ve phoned a auto alarm/electician guy who has all the gear(so my local garage said)i,m just waiting for him to get back to me.
I,ll let you guys know the outcome ,hopefully it may help someone when they have a simmilar probleb when the post ends up in the archieves.
The same thing has ben covered in the archives many times but no one seems to get back on in time to update what they did to get it fixed which is ashame
Thanks again
Mel.

Hi all
Got it sorted today by a local mobile auto electronix guy.
My old fob had died.
He supplied a new fob and programmed it for £52.87 .
Got my eka code checked by rover foc but it still won,t accept it though but at least i,m up and running i just hope i never need the eka code as it doesn,t work!!!
Thanks all
Mel
