MG MGF Technical - Immobiliser Synchronisation

In trying to find out why my radio/CD head unit seems to have lost any power supply, I removed and replaced all the fuses out of sheer frustration.

Unfortunately my bleeper does now not work as it has become unsynchronised and i can't drive the car as the immobiliser is armed.

The manual says unlock the drivers door with the key and press the lock button at least 4 times. Have done this several times to no effect. Bleeper was working fine earlier today and it has a new battery.

I bought the car second hand and have not got the code to deactivate the immobiliser with the key.

Any suggestions as it looks like i'm getting the train to work again. I say again as i have only just had £1200 of work done following the catastophic failure of my cam belt tensioner whilst at 5000 revs. They say things come in threes!!!

Dave, FWIW you can get the bypass code for key operation from any MG Rover dealer, they just need the VIN number and they look it up on the Rover computer system.

Hello Dave,

Maybe this can help :

Until a couple of days, I had problems to start my MGF VVC (see thread 'hot restart').
In the garage, they found out that the back of my radio was pusching to a connector of the alarm, and that that could be the cause of the malfunction.

I toke the radio out of his slot for about one inch and for 3 day now, i didn't have any problems anymore to start.

If you take out the 'ventilationduct' (sorry, don't know the exact english word) above the clock and oiltemperaturegauge, I will have a good look at the connectors and the back of the radio.

Maybe it is just an unplugged plug.

Geert Maes

Isn't the alarm ECU under the radio?
You would be better taking off the passanger side triangular kick panel.

>'ventilationduct' -> air vent would be more common, but ventilation duct passes the meaning well.

Well cheers for the help chaps, managed to sort the synch immobiliser out by removing the battery from the blipper and pressing both buttons for 5 secs (discharges the capacitor apparently) then pressed lock four or five times having unlocked the drivers door with the key.

Will have a look through the kick plate tonight, is the alarm ECU that small aluminium box (with a red wire coming out to the stereo head unit)?

Is there a way of testing the connecting plugs with an ammeter or other such testing device (i am an electrical ignoramus).
DM Wood

Just make sure everything is pushed home, sound like this wasn't you problem though, sounds as if the blipper was not in range for all five presses - have you done the mod to extend the blipper range?
Will Munns

tell me more or where can i find the info myself?
DM Wood

Lots in the archives...

When you have the passanger footwell off look at the big multiway connector you are checking to see if it's home.
the will be a yellow wire which doesn't go into the loom at the same point as the other wires, it will either be coiled up or it will be taped into the loom further on, cut the insulation on the loom(if required, you may be able to pull it free) to free the end of the wire, then tape the wire so it goes up, in a strainght line. Job done, blipper range is at least doubled.
Will Munns

can you tell me where the release clips are for the centre console and the footwell panel?
DM Wood

Two screws on kick panel, wobble a bit and falls out.
