MG MGF Technical - In Car Entertainment

I am planning to upgrade my 1996 MGF's cassette head unit to a single CD tuner with new speakers.

Who has done this and what speakers/head units can you recommend, given that the set-up only has two speakers and I'd like a decent amount of bass.

How easy are the door cards/speakers to remove/replace?

One last question....is the head unit connected via an ISO block connector?

Thanks
Mark B

Mark have a look in bbs archives loads of good info on this subject,Dave

top of the page, right hand side, you have to be a member (free).

In answer, ISO, yes, but no rear speakers are connected.
Speakers clipped into black plastic surrounds held in by three screws, same as rover 200 if you want to play at a scrapie.
Door cards are held in by five screws, then door card lifts off. see Dieters site for more detail.

I hardly see how diseased sheep are relevant to the present thread. (:O)

Put a 'For Sale' ad on the MGB board, standard MGF head unit is an official MG branded radio and therefore is a pretty good upgrade for an early MG owner.

I got £150.00 for my original one in 1997, probably won't get this now, but there is a pretty good market in the classic MG sector for this item.

Mark,
door speakers are 6.5". philips & kenwood do decent single disc system. kenwood KF-2018(?unsure) onwards have an additional option to adjust mid-range sounds where other brands only offer bass & treble adjustment. look around b4 buying.

I just changed my headunit from Kenwood MP6090.

And this new one sounds fantastic!

I recommend you a combination of

1. JVC LH2000 MP3 headunit
2. Infinity Reference 6.5" split components (if you can afford better ones, ie, Kappa even better)
3. One small amp, that has about 35RMS minimum power out put.

This will make a huge difference in sound quality and loudness.

Headunit is very important producing bass as well as speakers you get. Kenwood doesn't seem to produce heaps of bass, well at least on the last model.
