MG MGF Technical - Intermitent squeak
Have just returned from 2000 mile tour of Scottish coast - top down mostly, in my recently acquire 1997 F. Only problem was very occasional fairly high pitched squeak/squeal - whilst stationary (e.g at a junction) - possibly coming from fan / fan belt? Lasts about a minute then goes away. Any ideas? |

check your alternator belt its probably loose and needs tightening. |

Check this sooner rather than later, because if it breaks it can cause a lot of expensive problems. |

Thanks, guys. As a fairly new and not very mechanically adept MGF'er, how do I get access to check belt? |

Alternator belt seems ok, I think it must be engine bay fan, as per other thread. Problem is, it only really happens at traffic lights after a run, and by the time one can find somewhere to pull over its stopped whining. Any way of being sure its the engine bay fan? Chris |

Squeaks and squeals that sound like a fanbelt can in fact be the cambelt tensioner bearing. Been there, bang :-) IF that's what it is it's quite easy to replace and not expensive. A lot cheaper than bang. |
