MG MGF Technical - Intermittant Ignition Fault

Hopefully some of you remember my anguished threads on this subject some months ago.
Well, IT'S FINALLY BEEN FIXED!!!!!

The best thing I ever did was to take my F out of the dealership and straight to an independent auto electrician.

They had the car on two separate days and in that time they diagnosed it, fixed it and tested it. They also explained it to me in minute detail. £300 and a few weeks later and its running like a dream.

Seriously, if anyone needs an auto electrician in the Nottingham area then do try 1st Call Auto Electrics 0115 9605454 and you'll be as happy as I am : )

What was the problem then John?
Rob Bell

Rob: they've asked me not to say what they did to fix it (I don't think anyone else has ever done it) but I can say that the MAP sensor was at fault.

The thing is I specifically asked my dealer to check that sensor when they had the car - they said they had & there was no problem.....

I know who I believe.
John Philpott

Quite!

Anyway, glad to hear that all is sorted out now - must be a relief!

>they've asked me not to say what they did to fix it
That initally seems quite off*, is it something that any good electrictian would find?
If not are you going to direct anyone who has simmiler problems to them?
Can you list the problems simptoms here so along with your recommeded route (call 1st Call) a search in the archive will take you to this post and therefore the solution

Will
*I suppose that the fix is the IP of the company who found it, and if they have requested you don't say, then I guess thats just the way it should be.

John
Is this on a VVC ?
The MAP sensor is external (to MEMS) on the VVC and integral on the MPi - connected by a little plastic hose (at least on pre MY2000 cars).

I'm not surprised by your results, a good auto electrician, working from first principles with a 'scope can really earn his/her money against the computer based technician who will just report that the diagnostics are OK.

I bet you're pleased it's fixed !

Will: the symptoms were an intermittant loss of power when accellerating in all gears. Doesn't show on Rev counter but you lose all power (without stalling) and then it comes back on again (this just repeats until you stop the car. After several restarts the problem usually goes away for a short time.

Your point about their IP is spot on - that's why they want me to say no more at the moment - the guy is a real entreprenuer : )

Steve: Mine's an MPi.
> you need a good auto electrician
I'll drink to that - you need a specialist for this kind of thing, NOT a dealer...

My F is now officially OUT of the dealer network and I'm over the moon : )
