MG MGF Technical - Is there a product in Australia to clear the cloudy rear window?

Hello,

I bought my MGF about 4 months ago, but unfortunately the rear screen has gone very cloudy since then. I just put the car in the for first service, but they had never heard of 'plastic polish' (such as greygates I've seen mentioned here), and couldn't help.

I'm wondering if there is something similar to greygates I can get in Australia? The visibility is almost nil now, and its becoming a bit of a safety issue.

David Crawford

some owners recommend using Autoglym resin polish on the rear plastic window with satisfactory results. hope this helps.

You could try Swarfega hand cleaner - several favourable reports of this also.

Hi David,
I bought a plastic window cleaner for BMW, and seems to work well.

Go to BMW dealer, and ask for a plastic window polishing cream. Should be around $50AUS.

David left himself wide open there and you all posted sensible answers.

it must be the sun............

I have used toothpaste to clear the misting.
however whatever you choose i would suggest that you try a little bit in a corner incase method you use damgages the window.

Just a week ago I purchased a tube of BMW plastic screen cleaner for about $25 (NZ), which at the current exchange rate is probably about 50 cents OZ (not quite)! It worked very well on my window, and there is enough left for quite a few more cleans. I recommend the product.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll definitely check out the BMW cleaner.

Cecil, surprisingly enough, my grandfather mentioned he used to use toothpaste to fix a similar problem. I guess the old remedies are sometimes still good today.

And yes Andy, it was from the heat. In the fortnight immediately after I collected the car, every day was a 35c+ day, mostly around the 40c range. It started to cloud the rear screen almost immediately.

With the sound of my wife saying 'if we'd bought the mx5 with its glass rear window this never would have happened' still ringing in my ears, I thought I'd best post here to remedy the situation pronto!

Thanks again.

David Crawford

Greygate can be bought via the net, so you could try that. I have Greygate and Mer and find the Mer is easier and just as good. Mer polish is available in Aus I think, so you could try that if the BMW cleaner isn't available.
