MG MGF Technical - Is this normal
Hi I've bought a new MG TF and I love it :-) One thing I have noticed though is that when I undo the petrol cap to fill up, there is a suction noise like air runshing in! Is this normal? I've never heard it on any other cars I have driven? Thanks for any help Neal |

The same thing happens on my 98 F, so I would say it is normal. Sounds quite cool I think. |

Hi Neal, Don't worry, this usually happens when the fuel level is low in the tank. As far as I remember ,the fuel tank/fuel system isn't vented to atmosphere. So as the fuel level drops in the tank ,a partial vacuum is produced in the tank, which, when the fuel cap is removed, sucks in air from the outside. Causing the noise you've described. Has happened on most cars that I've driven. All the best, Mike |

Agreed. 100% normal. :) |

a bit like a f*rt going backwards (I'll try and be a nice boy from now on) |

Yes, normal - it's a product of the pressurised fuel system used in modern fuel injected cars. Tim. |
