MG MGF Technical - Is this related and what shall i do!!
Driving along on sunday on some nice A roads, fairly slow when I had to brake for traffic ahead. There was a 'kick' from the brake peddle when i applied the brakes and although the car slowed I didn't think it was going to stop in time so I took foot off brake and then applied it again and the car duely stopped. Rumbly noise could be heard and felt through both footwells. When I got home, got me other half to check brake pads and discs and decided pads at front needed to be changed. So went and got new pads and when it stops raining will fit them. The thing i am more concerned with is what happened today which may or may not be related. Same A road doing 60mph, radio on, roof down etc when car wouldn't accelerate - in fact it had no power and was slowing down. I looked at the dials and speedo and rev counter BOTH said 0. Car had quarter tank of petrol and radio was still going and indicators worked as did steering to side of road. Any ideas what this is, if it's related and whether its something serious. Cheers Em

The 'kick' and the noise sound like the ABS cutting in - perhaps when it shouldn't? Ted

The 'no dials' problem sounds like an electrical fault- probebly a loose wire some where, but as to where- I don't know, but I would try running the engione with boot and bonnet open and shaking everything until it cuts out. It's not a fuse as the 'F' doesn't(AFAIK) have self reseting fuses.

Doesn't the speedo have a mechanical drive?

Sh*te, I think your right- which would leave locked up wheels- but I think that Emma might have noticed! Will

Emma Sound a bit like the problem observed by Andy Wright in the thread 'HELP Engine problems'. Possible intermittent electrical fault - the very worst to find.. good luck. Bruce

>>Doesn't the speedo have a mechanical drive?<< I thought MY2000 on had electronic speedos. Some other owners have had cars which suddenly had the ignition cut out, the car would restart almost immediately. It's a difficult problem to trace - I would start with the ignition switch, especially if you turn the switch OFF before restarting. Steve
