MG MGF Technical - Its a 'thingmejig' - need the technical term!

Hi!

My previous question was about poor steering. My
mechanic has discovered this could be due to a worn steering bush and will re-track the handling when done.

However he has found this "plastic rubber thingmejig"
which is about 3' wide and about 6" deep which was attached to a subframe member that sits just behind the front bumper and has been flaping about in the breeze as one of the brackets has corroded. He thinks this partly unattached flap could also have caused it to handle badly at speed.

Anyone know what I am talking about, if so please tell me the technical name for that part and the
bracket as MG Swavesley is as baffled by my description as many of you may be.

Hi the thingmejig is the underbody spoiler. I have one sitting under my bench in my garage in Rugby, I think! Not far from you. I removed it when I fitted a TF style one which is a slightly different size to clear the subframe brace. This would have an effect on the high speed handling as it is designed to reduce the amount of air passing under the car, and hence the front end lift.

Hi! Dave,

I live east of Northampton and I would be quite happy to toddle over to Rugby for your spoiler, although I think mine is ok, but it is the bracket(s) that I need
to hold it to the subframe as one of mine has corroded and needs to be replaced. How much do you want for yours? My mobile is 07926369462.

Thanks

It's listed as an Air Dam on the Rover EPC parts cataologue - Part number - KGY100090 or the later TF version is KGY000020. Both will fit the TF one is narrower but deeper than the MGF one. Or you could buy my spare of me. Dave

I don't believe there is a seperate bracket the rubber is moulded to the braket and that is bolted to the subframe directly.

Hm just looked at the EPC again and there is a bracket listed with the air dam part number KGY100060 - EPC

I do still have the air dam have checked under the bench, couldn't quite see under the car if there is a seperate bracket like the one listed though without jacking the car up.

Have a look at the EPC on Dieter web page www.mgfcar.de/index.htm you then need to drill down the following route.

Hi! Davem

Thanks for the info. Will go down that route.

If you need the Air Dam or any advice let me know. We sell car parts on Ebay under the ID onlinetb , you can contact me through any of our adverts. Have had our car since new in 1996 so know a fair bit about them.
David Karle

Any joy with getting the bracket? I'm sure we could make one up fairly easily.
