MG MGF Technical - I've just had a quote for cambelt change...
Hi, I've just had a quote for a double cambelt change to included a new water pump and tensioner on my VVC 450 inclusive of VAT - this sounds quite reasonable to me - any comments? Also, a full service would be 150 inclusive of VAT - this is an MG specialist garage in Streatham. Simon |

For the work you've been quoted on, that seems reasonable - but why the water pump? Is their evidence of failure? Replacing the belt tensioner is probably a good precautionary measure. |

I recently paid around the same figure for roughly the same work at Techspeed, so the quote would seem sound enough. |

When I got my cam belt changed, I thought it was a good idea to replace the water pump. Only 28, and when you're that far into the engine.... |

Well yes and no, the pump is 30, fitting is about 5 (extra), but you need a coolant change which might not be req otherwise. |

Thanks guys... One more thing...will the radiator and under floor pipes be reaching the end of their life and will this be picked up in a service? |

If your changing the water you might as well change the pipes, ally pipes from Mike Satur or same again from MGR - will you still have the car in another 5 years? This will add to the cost because they're not just clipped into position, but also they are not a stock part so order them in first. |
