MG MGF Technical - Jacking points and axle stands -TF

I may have asked this before -in which case apologies!
Does anyone have some pix of the jacking points and axle support positions on a TF. I had a tyre fitter here today, and he located a trolley jack on what looked like a steel ring pointing vertically downwards from the rear of the car just inboard and forward of rear offside wheel (bad description!).This didn't look right to me..and as I want to get the wheels off the ground this weekend usinga trolley jack some clear pix would help!

Per MGR Manual.
Behind the front and Rear Bumpers, there are Central Jacking Points for lifting the front or rear of the car.

The axle stands are placed under the four sill strengthened Jacking points.

My 'F' will be going on the Stands at the end of the month when it will go away for the winter.

This is where i position my axle stands when i am working under the rear of the car.

This is a similar picture for the front.

Please note that i have an F, and there are changes to the subframe on the TF, but i would have thought these locations would be similar to those on your car - the subframes are largely the same structurally, the changes being mainly bracing and suspension related.

I must admit I jack on the central points, but place axle stands on the subframe not the sills.
Steve Ratledge

I usually put axle stands under the subframe as well. Unfortunately, my trolley jack doesn't go quite low enough to get under the central jacking points! I usually have to use a scissor jack under the jacking points to get the necessary clearance! LOL
Rob Bell

Rob, nor does mine (at the rear). So I drive it one wheel on to a 1" thick piece of wood. Then jacking is a breeze!

>So I drive it one wheel on to a 1" thick piece of wood. Then jacking is a breeze!

Echo: That's how it works.
I use two of height nearly 2"
Adhered three thin piece of wood together.
Lowest longer then the other to get a cambered pyramid shape.

:)
(no picture availiable .. unfortunalely ) .. LOL

I had a rear tyre punctured sometime ago and went to Kwik-Fit for a new F1 Eagle. They used a trolley jack under the edge of the cill. (This is the point where the tool- kit jack would normally push against).
Result: cill bent outwards and a "v" nick in the cill jacking point.
I have had no damage using the the tool kit jack on the cill in the past, so why did Kwik-Fit jack it there?
When doing normal jobs on the car I use the subframe for axle stands.

Chris - they used the correct jacking point and the sill still distorted?
Rob Bell

It gets bent with incorrect tool.
A trolly jack lever-end-plate hasn't got the V-shape to meet the sill edge flange.
Chris, immidiately get this fixed. The jack-up edge has a sill drain hole included and this may now be closed.
Water can't get out any more and it will end up with heavy rust from inside

<A trolly jack lever-end-plate hasn't got the V-shape to meet the sill edge flange.>

The one that I have from Halfords does have four v-shape cut outs on the pad...works perfectly on the sill jacking points.
Thanks to John Ponting for copy from workshop manual;it was really the positions for axle stands that I was interested in...happily all information was useful!
<Behind the front and Rear Bumpers, there are Central Jacking Points for lifting the front or rear of the car.>
Only one on the front now for TFs...
Blue Max

Thanks Dieter,
I have already fixed the cill jacking point. Drain hole is OK.
Another local tyre fitting place said the trolley jack used must of had the wrong end plate, as you suggested.
Cheers Chris

Get your purse out and visit Brown & Gammons. The CD based manual for the TF is worth having (similar to original RAVE disk for F).
