MG MGF Technical - Jerky Accelerator On Off
I have a 97 MGF 1.8i that has an annoying problem. When I press the accelerator pedal slowly the power seems to come on too abruptly and when I am driving and let go of the accelerator it takes the power off suddenly. This makes for a jerky ride so has anyone had this problem and solved it. Your Help is appreciated. Yes had a look in the archives but did not find what I needed. cheers, Branko |

clean throttle body best take off flush out with wd 40 also early plastic ones can warp maybe worth changing spark plugs and leads |

Def worth junking the plastic throttle body if you still have one, alloy 52's or even 56's are easily available. Put a 52 + induction kit on mine, made a helluva difference ;) |

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm not so sure that it is a warped throttle body as it runs OK except for the instant on/off effect. The symptom happened after the car was worked on by a mechanic a couple of years ago. The ECU was reported to have a dry joint and fixed at that time. Wondering if the throttle position sensor would cause this type of effect? |

Funnily enough, my 2001 TF does this as well, throttle on is smooth enough but it has a really agressive fuel cut off when you back off - trying to hold a constant speed and then running downhill with a slight backing off will suddenly cause an over-run fuel cutoff. As for the 2500rpm MOT emisions test, it's almost impossible to hold the revs at one level, even by hand directly on the throttle body. Any ideas? |

2001 should, of course, be 2003....it was a hard day! :D |
