MG MGF Technical - Juddering

Hi All,
Think its just the cold weather but my F has started juddering as if its gasping for fuel in second gear. I can put the accelerator right down and it fights me, then it just seems to release and speeds up! Hope this makes sense but its a bit hard to explain in writing!!

When I first got my F, had the same problem. Turned out to be one of the spark plus breaking down. Might be something simelar?

Thats a good point Rich...might put some Bosch 4s in - they are supposed to be fab!

With the damp mornings it could also be plug leads, a new set wouldn't go amiss if yours are over 5 years old

Nothing serious then...well thats a relief :-)

Dolly, do you change plugs & leads yourself? Have you seen where they are? Have you got a hardtop on the car?

As you say ... "Nothing serious then...well thats a relief"

Car will be even better afterwards.
JohnP

Hello JohnP!
Is this the Spanish inquisition :-)))) (Just kidding) No I don't know where they are (yet) are they hard to find?? And yes I have a hardtop now yipee :-)))

Dolly - is your car an MPi or VVC? If the former, and it is a few years old, then it could be the rotor arm and distributor cap: they're past their best by 5 years of age and will need replacing.

Had exactly the same thing on mine - new dizzy components solved it in a stroke :o)
Rob Bell

Everybody fears the Spanish Inquisition. No, they are not hard to find. Unless you have a hardtop on, of course.
JohnP

Rob its a VVC so hopefully it should be ok....JohnP I guess I'll have to take the hardtop off then eh! :-))

VVC...

Good thing - no dizzy cap or rotor arm to wear out.
Bad thing - stupidly fiddly job to replace HT leads!!
