MG MGF Technical - jumpy on acceloration
My 1.8i has just started feeling jumpy on acceloration. It does not happen all the time but has just started. It usually happends on moderate acceloration. I have looked at the HT leads and can see some black marks in various places. However the car has only done 34,000 miles and is only 4 years old. Also it is not consistant. If the leads had broken down I would have thouht it would have been jumpy all the time. Any ideas? |

Tim Its been very dry for the last 6 weeks and now the normal weathers back ! i.e wet and damp. If the leads have broken down the damper weather would now be a factor. Sounds like its time to upgrade to magnicor leads ! assuming it is the leads of course. STU |

Tim, I've just had the same problem. Look at the suggestions in the thread 'MGF misfiring, please help!' Peter |

Tim, it sounds as though you have the classic rotor arm and distributor cap failure problem: Car runs fine, but attempting to accelerate in 3rd gear from lowish rpm causes the car to loose power, and it feels as though it is misfiring. Replacement is quick, easy and cheap. Just order a new distributor cap and rotor arm from your local MGR dealer, and fit yourself :o) |

Check the plug gaps while you're in there. Make sure they're on minimum gap. 0.8mm from memory. Bruce |
