MG MGF Technical - K-series cambelt change video
In case you've not seen it yet, there's a video on how to change the cam belt that is hosted on the internet. Unfortunately my work Mac doesn't like Windows media files, so I haven't seen it yet, but it can be downloaded here http://rapidshare.de/files/13989856/k_series_cambelt_change.wmv.html It's for engines with the automatic tensioner, but all the processes are the same between engines, and setting the manual tensioner is not difficult :o) |

Nice one Rob, I for one hadn't seen that vid and found it very intersting. Do you know if there is another vid lurking somewhere showing a head gasket change ? Steve |

call me thick but I can't see how to download this...:( any advice? |

He cheats, That engine is out of the car and all the bolts are loose, theres no unexpected surprises like leaking waterpumps and no fiddling in the dark trying to make a tool to lock the crank without actually being able to see the teeth, he has even lined up the engine so the cam teeth are in exactly the right place. |

LOL Will ;oD Steve, no idea whether there is one for HGF repair - but if I come across one, I'll certainly let you know :o) |

>>call me thick but I can't see how to download this...:(<< Try this - http://www.csmgf.co.uk/temp/cambelt.wmv |

cheers, that worked. It only takes 10mins so how come the cambelt service is about £200 more than a normal service then....:) |
Tony |
Tony, see Will's reply above ;oD LOL |

ROFL .. I showed this video to Rosi yesterday and she asked me. Gosh!! what did you mad bloke play around there for one and a half day in last year ?? :-/ |

Easy enough if you have access to at least a double garage, if not a small workshop. Would not like to attempt it with the car parked on the street and only a garden shed to work in. |

Nice and useful video for the normal DIYér despite the engine being on a workbench. Probably the only way to show it and also have sound added ;O). Imagine the same video and the language used if done on an engine "in situ". My only comment is that there was no thought about the water-pump. Spinning and rocking the water pump pulley tells a lot about it´s condition.Slightly drag from a healthy seal, no play in any direction as well as no signs of coolant leaks is a good thing to check. |

Just watched it for the first time - and I agree with Carl - this is the best way that the cam change can be shown. Yes, doing this on an engine with a manual tensioner that is still in the car is harder work, but perfectly achieveable - as shown when we changed the cam timing on Steve's engine: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/engines/tuning/cam_timing.htm |

Nice one any more on any thing we need to do to ower mg,s? tony |

>> Do you know if there is another vid lurking somewhere showing a head gasket change ? << I've contacted the 'star' of the video, Paul, and have asked that very question Steve :o) |

Anything to help alleviate my F induced paranoia is most welcome Rob ! - You'd think after around 8 years of ownership I would have got used to it by now :) |
