MG MGF Technical - K2000 what's the news?

What's the news about the K2000 engine?

Is is a proper MGR engine?

Neil

Still waiting for the production version to break cover Neil.

Judd/AER version is available (race only - mega bucks)
PTP version has recently broken cover, but not available yet.

Touring cars are ZS's again this year, some with K2000 engines.

The third, production variant, has yet to appear.

SF
Scarlet Fever

so this will eventually become a proper production - 100,000 mile engine you can buy from MGR Dealers types of engine?
and not just a megabuck handbuilt race engine good for 5000 miles max!
Neil

Autocar previewed the Caterham Seven R600 a couple of weeks ago which has a K2000 in it, so the production version can't be far off. They reckoned it had some serious poke, even over the R500.

Lewis

The K2000 in the Caterham that Lewis mentioned is the PTP version. my understanding is that this engine will only be available for motorsport applications.
As far as I'm aware, Judd are the only company who currently have a road going version (210ps). When I visited them a month ago, they said they still had a couple of issues to resolve but it should be available very soon.
They also have a problem that they do not have the facilities to manufacture large numbers of engines, so for the time being the few 210ps K2000's they can produce will be sold to X-Power for use in its 'special editions' and motorsport applications (X-Power are already taking orders for the ZR210).
I was also told that they would look at expanding production if there was a requirement for a larger number of K2000's, fingers crossed this will happen as it should have the knock-on effect of lowering the price of the engine :oD
