MG MGF Technical - Knocking From Front

Hi guys,

I was in a rush the other day (well that's my excuse) and the road I was driving down was quite bumpy - and suddenly I heard a loud knock noise which come from the front of the car. It wasn't the jack as I checked all that after, I did hear it again when I was driving out of work as we have those horrible road humps. Problem is I haven't heard it since so can't work out where it is exactaly coming from - Any ideas guys??

Kind Regards,

Worth checking the lower shocker bush. If the rubber is squished/perished then you might have been hearing a metal on metal clunking over every big bump.

Thanks Tim - will check it out

There will be many other suggestions coming along any moment now, all equally valid, I thought I'd start with the easy stuff... :o)

If you do find the bushes worn then it may be time for: a) poly bushes, b) new shocks.... all depends on you wallet.

this has been happening on mine for a few weeks now. used to be on big bumps only, now it's almost all the time there is a compression/release on the front suspension. Still under warranty so shouldn't cost me anything.

Seems to be a common problem. It happened years ago (1999 I think ) with my '96 mpi but i had to pay for it then !

Alarming thing is that the other day it steered sharply to the left when braking, and I know it wasn't the road :-( . But it hasn't happenend again...

Service coming up soon, I'll have it all done at once.

Anthony,

I had the sharpe steering problem to the left - and it was a sticking brake pad.

It may sound odd but had a knocking for months that no dealer could sort out. It turned out to be a bonnet hinge that simply required a little oil. The solution was posted by someone on this BBS.
