MG MGF Technical - Knocking Noise from Rear Wheel
I have recently got a knocking noise from my rear passenger side wheel on initial acceleration and deceleration. It is not apparent when driving at constant speed. Seems like it might be in the drive shaft. Any suggestions? Vehicle is a 2001 MGF Trophy 160 with 43,000 kms on odometer. Thanks, Mark. |

That is the favourite corner for the first wheel bearing! |

Hi my wheel bearing went and I had it repaired last week unfortunately damage had also occured to the hub so it cost more than if it had been sorted sooner. Oh and guess which wheel it was... yep rear passenger side. My advice get it looked at sooner rather than later to prevent further damage. |

Loose rear caliper? |

Yes, this corner seems to take all the strain. Its always this wheel bearing that goes first. Also check that the flange is in good condition, as we've seen quite a few of these that have failed. The worst case we've seen is where the drive shaft failed. Luckily, the owner was still in the pit lane at the time. If he had been out on track when it failed that would have been the end of the car. |
