MG MGF Technical - Leaking boot

The wet boot liner is driving me mad

I bought my R reg VVC at the end of September and had about a week of dry boot.

Any ideas where the water could be getting in ?

Any help much appreciated

Grahame Black

Sorry to be a bit vague first thing in morning Grahame but there are quite a few references in the Archive. Try searching for LEAK first and then drill down. Might have a look myself from work (ADSL) later if I can look as though I am doing database rebuilds and queries!

Very likely to be the sealing gasket around the rear light clusters.

Thanks John

spent more time than I should looking over all the other horrible things that could happen........

The leak stuff was really useful..... I suspect the rear lamps.

Thanks again

Good luck Grahame - hope you track down that leak! I suspect you are right about the lens gaskets they seem to be the commonest source of leaks, although panel seams can also cause problems - and some have reported leaks through the drain holes in the boot lid (although this is not a problem my car has suffered from).

Yet to complete that leaks page, but at least I've made a start on it...

I never thought I'd be glad to see some heavy rain..

It is one thing we can depend on in this part of the country.

The liner is gently steaming over a radiator.
The water was steadily trickling in from the lower inside corner of the rear light cluster...around a smear of sealant that I hadn't noticed before ( sealed on the inside ~ which didn't stop it, just diverted it to another route !)

Where do I go for the fat gaskets ?

They're available from a number of sources. I bought mine from my local MGR dealership (part number on the site). Also available from B&G etc (and also from the MGOC I believe?)
