MG MGF Technical - Low fuel light??

Guys,

Is there supposed to be a low-fuel warning light on the F? I seem to remember there being one, but it hasn't lit lately when very very low?

If so, is the bulb a pig to get to?

Cheers

Chris, I raised this point a little while ago and was told by a ferw members of the BBS that the F doesnt have a petrol light, as a gauge is sufficient to tell us when the tank is empty. GC

You know, I could have sworn there was one!! Although I guess due to the strange saddle-bag type tank, it would be on and off quite a bit!

Chris - I believe you are used to riding a bike? Do you still trip the odometer when filling even though modern bikes have gauges and lights? I know I do - it keeps an eye on the fuel consumption as well as letting me know when to fill up.
JohnP

I think the MKII's had one, the MKI certainly didn't..

Personally I don't have a problem with it (yes riding a bike does make you aware of fuel!), but my g/f has mentioned it a couple of times and I couldn't answer her for definite.

By MKII you mean MY2000?
Chris George

No MGF (Mk1, 2 or 3 ;o) - okay, Mk1, MY2000 and TF) has ever been equipped with a low fuel warning light.

To my knowledge, the only current MGR product with one is the 75/ZT.
Rob Bell

Cheers Rob. That will certainly give rise to 'But my almera has one... ' !! ;-)

ho hum

Chris

BTW those who followed my thread on the dealer prices, I got the work all done at B&G, and yet again am very satisfied with the level of service and standard of work. The abby feels like she should now and actually stops!! Simple brake fluid replacement and bleeding did the trick, something that the MGR dealer though was perfectly fine... :-

Oh and it was a damn site cheaper too!!!!

Chris George

And if it Would have one, it would probably work as inaccurately as the gauge itself, they´ve done a good job leaving it out. It saves us from a lot of frustration of yet another niggle on the *F*,

I've noticed on mine that when the gauge gets low, you need to get to a petrol shop bloody quickly! As soon as the needle starts to touch the red band, expect some coughing and spluttering.

jim, throw it around a rounderbout and the fuel will wash over from the other side, instant reserve tank!

erm actually if you do that in the wet, expect to be towed home and a big incresse in your insurance premium.

LOL Will! Think I'll adopt the little green can in the boot method instead though!

Slanderous!

On second thoughts I'll be practicing my handbrake turns tonight.

Actually you can pull more G's (and move more fuel) with the tyres gripping, you can move even more fuel by loosing the backend and clipping the curb with your wheels though!
Will Munns

I had a good go at that the other night, round a nice slow roundabout, put the powerdown while offside rear wheel was on a drain cover, oops which way am i suposed to going?? didnt hit anything tho

HI

WHY DO YOU NEED A LIGHT TO TELL YOU YOU ARE RUNNING LOW ON JUICE THAT IS WHY THEIR IS A NEEDLE AND A RED (FOR WARNING ) BAR JUST PUT MORE PETROL IN IT MORE OFTEN

I ALSO KEEP A GREEN CAN UNDER THE BONNET INSTALLED OPPOSITE THE BATTERY FOR EMERGENCYS (NEVER USED IT THOUGH) IT FITS LIKE A GLOVE

P.S I BET I RUN OUT IN THE FOLLOWING WEEKS FOR MY COMMENTS, SODS LAW

Not sure that keeping a petrol can in the front crumple zone is such a great idea, Mick 8oO

Mind you, where IS a safe place to put it in an F?
Rob Bell

Anywhere is safe as long as the can is empty! (which it is suposed to be)
