MG MGF Technical - MGF alarm (not) activated ?
Hi Fellow MG'ers, Had an interesting "problem" happen today. Normally when I lock my MGF from the remote, the indicator lights will flash twice to indicate the car is locked and alarm engaged. Today when I locked the car, the buttons go down but no flashing lights. Does this mean the alarm is not engaged ? Interstinging, the lights flash when I unlock the car as per normal. Is there something I'm missing ? Thanks Sonny |

Sonny, this may help. (from the owners manual) "If the doors lock but the direction indicators do not flash: This indicates that either the bonnet, boot lid or one of the doors is not fully closed. In this case the perimeter alarm will still be armed and the engine immobilised, but the interior (volumetric) protection will not have been activated. Once the open door or aperture is located and closed, the direction indicators will flash and the alarm system will arm itself fully." Cheers, Branko. |

Branko, Right on the money mate. Had a sticky boot lock. All good now though. I tell ya something, you guys aren't paid enough for your advice. Got a MG centre, they'd charge me $100 for a hour of their time plus parts ! Wish I could buy you all a beer ! Ever get up Sydney way ? Cheers Sonny |

Sonny, "I'd travel a mile for a cold beer!" I may take a trip (one day), just for the hell of it and may take you up on that beer. I actually partake in a drop or two of the ol' Guinness or Stout. More taste and more kick for the dollar. For those outside Australia, Melbourne to Sydney and back is about 1,800 kms or 1,120 miles! Now that's a long way for an ale. cheers, Branko. |

I'll keep a few beers on ice for ya mate - just let me know when you want to take the drive ! By the way, do you know how to fix that dreaded water ingresses through the cheater problem ? I got a few replies on this BBS but they didn't do much more than confuse the s#!t out of me ! Thanks Sonny p.s. Good coffee is worth crossing the world for :-) |

Sonny, The usual problem seems to be a pinching of the rubber which runs down the edge of the windscreen where the "cheeter" (black triangle of plastic) touches it. I have just fitted 10mm O/D Festo air pipe ( It's quite rigid) inside the original rubber via the hole at the top of the windscreen. This seems to sort the problem out. As we seem to be in for a few days of wet weather in the UK, (which you know is quite normal for Spring Summer Autumn Winter!! ) I'll keep you updated. Dave |

Sonny, Well, I'm actually hopeing to be taking a trip to QLD with my daughter in July to see my oldies, maybe I'll just do that and drop in via Sydney!! I can taste it already :-) Dave, sounds like a great idea. But, what is a "Festo" ? Cheers, Branko. |

Branko, Festo is a trade name of small diameter air pipe here in the UK. The sort of thing you'd use on compressors Dave. |
