MG MGF Technical - MGF chattering lock problem
Hi, I have a problem with the locks on my MGF. Whenever I lock it with either the remote fob or the key the locks chatter for about a second. Anyone know what causes this and how to cure it? Thanks Andrew |

When you say 'chatter' are the doors locked afterwards - if so then yes they all chatter or more like 'clunk click' two or three times. Ted |

These chatter about 10 times in about a second before finally stopping in the lock position. It used to be fine doing about 4 clicks when dead locking it. But now its doing this second long chatter, twice if dead locking. |

Sounds like a dodgy lock! Ted |

Andrew, Could be one of the door lock pins fouling on the door card. Have you had the inner door panels off recently (broken window stop repair, new speakers, window alignment etc?) If so then it is possible the door lock pin is rubbing on the hole in the top of the door card making the lock mechanism work harder, causing the chatter. Try holding down the passenger door lock pin with the door open, the mechanism will try to unlock the door again and will produce the noise i am on about. HTH SF |

I have recently had this problem with my '97 F. Tame mechanic said 'yes, I know what this is.'. Seems there is a small plastic part of the lock mechanism that was split. Not sure if it was replaced, or just taped back together, but it has been sorted, and no charge appeared on the bill, so it must have been quick and easy to sort out. |

Mine have done this ever since I took out the drivers lock mech last winter to cure the problem with the interior lights. Locks still work okay so I am not really worried about it! Jason H |
