MG MGF Technical - MGF Exhaust problem
My exhaust started making a lot of noise a couple of days ago. I took it to a garage yesterday and they found hole on the mainfold just above the pipe. Apparently it is perfectly round as though something (a bung or sensor perhaps) should be there. The mechanics did not know what should be there dispite ringing around several Rover mechanics. Anyone got any ideas? |

Lynda, any chance of a picture of the offending hole? Surely it can't be the Lambda sensor - your mechanic would sure know as to whether the Lambda was present or not...? |

Is the hole threaded? I don't know what year your car was build, but from model year 2001 the engine management system uses two lambda sensors, so the mechanic might have seen one and assumed it was OK. |

Unfortunatly it is common that the welded "nut" leaves the mainfold together with the sensor :O( But if the threaded nut is still present a very temporary fix is to fit a sparkplug as the windings are the same ! But surely the mechanic would find out what is wrong (if he is a CAR mechanic !) If the sensor is still with the car dangeling in the wires it is probably so damaged so a new one needs to be fitted. BE AWARE that aftermarket Lambda sensors are mch better priced than getting one from the main dealer.... Best of luck ! / Carl. |

Lynda look for a wire with a doofer on the end that should be in the hole;-) |

I have a spare maifold sitting in the garden which you can happily have for £20 |
