MG MGF Technical - MGF plastic rear windows

Hi! I have a 2001 MGF 1.8i. Very pleased with it
apart from the rear plastic window zipper. I can move
the zipper forward and backwards, but it does not
bind the two halves together, so at the moment, duck
tape is holding it in place.

Any polite suggestions on how I can cure this or do I
have to purchase a new insert. Personally having
read the fitting instructions, I would rather pay the
extra (not too much extra as what the now defunction
Phoenix MG dealership wanted) to have it fitted by
a reputable company, but there does not appear to be
any in Northamptonshire, unless you know different?
Quite happy to travel for up to an hour (50 miles or
so from Northampton) to get it done

Bill,
Many good comments are being received from a lady in Twickenham, nw London, not far from Heathrow.

She replaces rear windows, slightly thinner plastic, but her prices are good.

I believe she deals with zips also, I haven't used her services, I know some have, maybe they will drop by.

She charges £115.00 for a window replacement, or £75.00 if you send it by post.

Her numbers are 0208 893 9747 / 07904 893460

Probably any local automotive trimmer would be able to help you out Bill - as it sounds as though you need to replace the complete zip. Have a look in the local yellow pages.

In addition to these, you could also ask Newton Commercial/ Brown and Gammons/ Mike Satur or the MGF Centre for some help.

I had a hood zip replaced by a local Coach Trimmer as Rob suggests.

The Heathrow lady (sorry your name has flown from my brain) has had quite a few vey good reviews and only needs the car for a couple of hours.

Hi! Adrian, Rob & John.

Thanks for your advice. I have spoken toSonia of
Whitton, Twickenham and booked my car in for next
Saturday. She will supply and fit the new rear
screen plus all new zippers for £130 which I think
is pretty reasonable. Likes cash though (no dodgy
cheques or credit cards) which is no problem. Better
than what I was quoted elsewhere, even if it means
an hour or so's drive and half a tank of petrol, plus
the cost of my wife going shopping whilst we are
waiting for the car to be done! Could turn out to be
more expensive than I thought!!!!

Hope theres no rugby on at Twickenham next saturday, otherwise an hour or so's driving and half a tank of fuel, may be a bit of a premature estimate, good luck, have a great day.
