MG MGF Technical - MGF Powerboast
Heya just thought I'd have a laugh, a new power boast valve for £4.95! must make the car go soooooooooo much faster!!! http://www.speedydelivery.co.uk/car-tuning-power/rover-mgf.shtml |

The gear gate has a prancing horse on it! cant believe someone with a ferrari has spent money on that to make the car go faster!!! |

I think you mean "Power Boost", although a power boast button would be as much use.... _Click_ "one hundred and sixty BPH - I spit on you nova" |

ROFLMAO ;oD *** SNAKE OIL ALERT *** Edd, sorry, but your typo (intentional?) really has this this thing perfectly described! A power boast indeed. ;o) It's a pointless rip off. You are looking at a resistor in the line to the inlet manifold temperature sensor. It would cost you 5 pence from Maplins or RS if you really wanted to do this. Perhaps 20 pence for a variable resistor - which is exactly what this thing is. Nice control knob though... Looks as though it was pinched from a 1974 "Stereogram" ;o) So... does it work? No. If anything, MEMS fuels the K-series slightly rich anyway, but this daft resistor idea will up the fueling still further. What happens when you over fuel? You actually LOOSE power and you get bore wash - the phenomena whereby the excess petrol washes down the cylinder bores. Petrol is a pretty good solvent, and will strip away the lubricating oil. Consequence: you accelerate engine wear. Loved the first sentence though: "This simple, yet effective unit will help boost the power output of your Rover mgf engine, without sacrificing reliability or comfort." Phew, I'd hate to think that this thing would make my MG uncomfortable! ;o) |
