MG MGF Technical - MGF quality parts

Oooh, I hear a sharp intake of breath from those that remember a similar thread a few weeks ago! :-)

But, if you go to http://www.apttony.co.uk/MGFquality/MGFquality.html you will now see the start of a database that tries to quantify just how good various replacement or additional MGF items are felt to be.

(You can also access this webpage though the 'contents' list on my site at www.apttony.co.uk)

Why do this? Well, the idea is really to have one place where comments, similar to those often expressed on this BBS and others, regarding how good / bad / or value for money various items are, and to attempt to derive a meaningful measure of value by collating as many opinions as possible.

So, in anticipation, thanks for you help.

Hopefully you have now looked at the database.

But you have already bought your new filter, splitter and / or tyres. Why bother sending in your opinion of them?

Well, the more opinions that go into the database, the more likely it will be that when you are thinking of spending your hard-earned cash on something else, there will be a reference to it and somebody else's opinion of just how good it actually is. A bit like the "Which" magazine, I guess, but this is free.

Go on - spend a couple of minutes adding your opinion of something that you have bought for your MGF.

Thanks in advance.

A good list building up there Tony - will sure to become a very valuable resource, especially once there are more overlaps in responses to specific products :o)

Ta !

Tony,

I have submitted 2 entries - I will add more when I get the time! A suggestion, though - as the list grows it's going to get tricky to sort the data. Any chance of getting some sort of filter set up? For example, if I am thinking of going to X supplier it would be nice to show only entries relating to company X even if they are for different types of service. Just a thought!

Tim,

At present it's not a true "database" but rather a simple edited list.

I've been thinking along the lines of making it a true database, but have held back, mainly because of time, but also since I am aware that as more data comes in, I may find that there is a need to modify the data catagories or overall approach.

But, yes I agree, it would be nice to be able to set a 'query' function.

Tony

PS: Thanks for your entries

Tony

Hmm yeah, that's a great idea Tim! :o)

Tony, I'll sort out some more entries soon, promise!
Rob Bell

Tony,

How about a simple Excel sheet? Easy to port the data you already have, simple to add and modify and has some nice powerful filtering tools (you can just add a drop down list to a column heading, for example).

Tim.

:-) got some ideas regarding the other bits I have.

Will post some more soon !

Anyway, well done mate. I think it's good as it is.
Should be split later to different section pages if it gets to large.

It's looking really good now Tony - it is turning into a very helpful purchasing resource! I've added a couple more entries as I've remembered what I have had fitted to the car over the years - I'm sure that there will be more that I haven't thought of! LOL

I see that some folks who've submitted details have had their names withheld - I think that this is a good idea as it may make some folk more confident to post what they really feel about certain products... Do you think that a 'withold name' check box might be a useful addition to the form Tony?
Rob Bell

Rob,

Thanks for your comments.

As to the anonyminty of subscribers, I would prefer that people put their name to their opinions. After all, while some may be praising an item or supplier, others will be saying that a part is not value for money ( no different from what happens on this BBS, by the way )

If they give their name etc, then their opinion will carry more weight and the database will be fairer to both subscibers and suppliers.

That's certainly true Tony, very true. :o)

Thanks to all those who have contributed so far. It's steadily growing. :-)

If you want to add your opinions, go to http://www.apttony.co.uk/MGFquality/MGFquality.html, and go to the Form page.

Thanks
