MG MGF Technical - MGF Rear Window
I have split the rear window screen on my convertible MGF (1998). The garage tells me to fit a new one it will cost £550.00, this sounds pricey to me. I notice that the back section unzips at the top, has Velcro down the sides and is held at the bottom by rivets. Would it be a cheaper option to replace all this section, surely not much work would be involved in this. Could anyone provide me with an estimate for this please? If anyone has any other suggestions, please advise me accordingly. I live in Jersey Channel Islands so I am limited as to where I can take it. |

Expect ~£100 Search the archives for softtopwindows, they are a company that will send you the bits, the thread will list other people who can do it for you/can send you the bits. |

Tristan, I'm @work @present. When I get home I shall try to scan some of the workshop manual section on screen replacement and email to you. The screen is available from a number of suppliers - other BBSers will provide suitable links for you or search archive. |

100 quid from Midland MGF 0121 585 8734 Speak to jason. Or do the 'Softwindows' route about the same price I think. Will's trick to avoid a cracked window, in winter pour on some hot water to soften the window up before lowering the roof. NB also make sure the window isn't too cold when ou put it up again.... It was your tip wasn't it Will....! |

Don't go for the MGR replacement whatever you do - even second hand (and obviously not at that price, even in Jersey). The Softtopwindows http://www.softtopwindows.com is made of much better stuff - stays pliable to much lower temperatures. The site has fitting instructions, and prices. E |

Tristan, You have mail in your Hotmail account. David |

Tristan If not already done, at least look at the removal/fitting instructions on softtopwindows site to see what is involved. |

If anyone is interested I was about to replace the rear screen on my '96 F thru SoftTopWindows but decided to look into the cost of a new roof (MKII version) as mine is not looking/performing too well. I managed to get hold of one from the MGF Centre for £250 (including del). It is a MKII from last year. This seems like a pretty good deal since SoftTopWindows charge £150 including fitting for a new rear screen. The alternative was MidlandMGF who wanted £375 + del. Gaz |

Thanks I have contacted soft top windows and this sounds like the best option. their window is made of a better material, and only costs £95. Thanks for everyones help,. Ihave recieved the fitting instructions and this doesnt seem to difficult. |

Tristan Do you think you could forwrd the fitting instructions to me? I am in the same boat and wondered how easy it would be to replace the rear window myself. mgf1.8@mail.com |
