MG MGF Technical - mgf trophy pulls to the left
hi ive got the f trophy it seems to be pulling to the left could anyone tell me what could be causing this ive taken the fuse out of the epas and it still seems to do it |

See if one wheel is getting warmer than the other, if so the brake pads may be stuck on, which can happen when the pad locating pins corrode. |

It's the sensor on the steering column. You have three choices: buy a new column @ £650, buy secondhand item from MGF Centre or similar or take it to Power Steering Services, Greenwich. Cheers Will |

I take it that it's not just under braking and you have checked all the simple stuff first like tyres/tracking etc? It may just be the brakes. |

ive said in the first post that ive taken out the fuse so could it still be the epas ????? it dose not pull more to the left when braking |

A binding caliper will not necessarily show itself when braking, particularly on the AP 4pot setup which naturally compensates; it's usually more evident when the brakes are off. Worth jacking up the front of the car and checking both sides for a. binding brakes, b. wheel bearing wear, c. other suspension wear (wishbone & bushes, balljoints) |

hi update to my problem..took the car for a second 4 wheel tracking and found that it was out but still have the same problem ....checked for binding brakes . wheel bearing wear. other suspension wear (wishbone & bushes, balljoints but when the car was on the jack it looked as if the steering rack was bent (very slightly)on the passengeer side just past the gator can anyone confirm that its ment to be like that or email me at pauldixon@50.com |

sorry thats pauldixon50@msn.com |

It can't be the epas if you have taken the fuse out because with no power, the clutch between the PAS motor and steering column will have disconnected the mechanical connection between the two. That is providing your disconnecting the correct fuse (the big one, under the bonnet). |

Have you checked your tyre wear? Wear to the inside edge of my o/s front caused my car to continue to pull left after getting the 4 wheel alignment sorted. |

Has the car always had this problem? If so, it may be a difference in castor side to side which creates a steer torque imbalance across the front axle. Anything greater than 0.75 deg difference in castor side to side is likely to be noticed. Cross camber can also be felt as a steering pull. it is worth checking the geometry report to see what result you have. Andy |

I had the same problem on my Trophy 160 and thought it may have been the EPAS. However it turned out to be the tyre pressures on the front as I had a slow leak in the front LH tyre. While it seems obvious, make sure that your tyre pressures are to spec (i.e. 24 psi front; 36 psi rear; Goodyear F1 GS-D2). A small difference of 2 psi between left and right can affect straight line steering. |

hi ive just got a new steering colum with the epas unit (£45 from ebay) going to fit it this weekend i do have tyre wear on drivers side front wheel not much life left in the tyre now so il replace it while other side is new and no ive not always had this problem only last few month thanx for your replys il let you know how i get on |

To a rank amateur that sounds like a tyre issue and nothing at all to do with EPAS - hope it is sorted now. |

right i have reset my steering colum and it still pulls to the left could tyres be causing this i have one new on left side and one 3/4 the way through its life with ware on the inner side????? help |

Tyre wear is a typical sign of tracking needing attention and one caue of this would be if a steering was bent. They should both be straight, but they have a ball joint each end to allow for movement of the suspension. Personally I'd be a bit nervous about replacing a single tye on an F because they do have a track record for being very sensitive to choice of tyre and the general setup. Chris |

What happens if you swap the front wheels over? Worth a try. |

thanx for all your help ive now sorted the problem for anyone that has the same problem this is the steps i took 1. hydro gas pumped up so car was level...did not seem to make it any better 2. 4 wheel tracking did not seem to make it any better 3. fixed the epas steering did seem to help a lot http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/default.htm 4. put one new tyre on drivers side as the passenger was new this stoped my problem thanx to any help that i got from every 1 cheers keep up the good work |
