MG MGF Technical - MGF Tyre warning Statment

Can anyone heard vouch for the vaidlidity on the MG statment to tyre dealers to only fit nct3 and egle f1 due to adverse handing on the f. I am looking to purchase a set os bridgestone s03 onver the next couple of day as would value your insight
Paul

Many people on this BBS have successfully used S02's and more recently S03's.

In fact a development engineer from Bridgestone in Belgium did!

There were stories that Quickfit claimed to have a memo, but I don't remember anyone ever having seen it "for real".

Another alternative (probably what I'll fit next time I need all 4) is Bridgstone RE720's. I gather they're slightly harder compound (last longer) without much difference in grip.

Micheldever tyres are pretty competitive for price (and its a nice drive down there). They're between Basingstoke and Winchester off the A303.

Neil.
(S02's on the front and S03's on the back - which is also "supposed" to not be recommended, though they couldn't come up with a better alternative that didn't involve my replacing the front tyres too!)

NCT 3 is now obsolete has been for about a year, although a tyre dealer still may have some old stock but doubtful.

MG-R now fit Continentals on 15" wheels on TF.

A MG-R dealer may have 15" recommended/preferred tyre spec for MGF.

I have the memo, but it doesn't say NOT to fit other tyres, it says that the handling may be effected by fitting diffrent tyres, and if the collective experence here is anything to go by then the statement is true- but the implication is not! It also says that it is OK to fit other tyres as long as the customer is made aware of the advice.
P.S. the memo is not from MGR, but from some tyre fitter service (presumeably there is a central database which all manufactures put their data into)

I guess that if you're a car manufacturer, you can only ever really test the car on a limited range of tyres. They're probably just covering themselves against people putting on crappy retreads or something!

The interesting thing is whether insurance companies could get out of paying up becuase you don't have the 'recommended' tyres.

If you have an F with F1's like me, then I guess if you're worried you should just stick to them - they're pretty good even if they do wear quite quickly. NCTs seem to be more of a problem though, according to people on this BBS...

>The interesting thing is whether insurance companies could get out of paying up becuase you don't have the 'recommended' tyres.

The reason I have the information is because the Assesor forwarded it to the insurer when I managed to spin the F, however Admiral have not made any mention of it to me.
As I said they don't say NOT to fit other tyres. If I remember I'll bring it in tomorrow and someone can host it to alow you all a good look.

Will,

I'm insured with Admiral, and when I was arranging insurance a couple of months ago, I told them I was changing the type of tyre to Bridgestone RE720's and the size of the front tyre to 195/50/R15. I was told that they weren't bothered about that as people change tyres etc often, and not to worry.

They would obviously have been more interested if I had to change the wheels on the car for the new tyres, which I didn't.
