MG MGF Technical - Mic installation on windshield for GSM car kit

Do you know how to open the plastic around the windshield to install a wire to mount a microphone next to the mirror ?

Thanks,

Do you mean the trim inside the windscreen surround?

I had mine off the other day actually to replace the rear view mirror. It's pretty straight forward.

In brief you need to remove both sun visors (Phillips screws)
Next remove the retainer catches on the header rail: they're held in place by two torx-head bolts.

Once these are removed, the trim components can be peeled away from the windscreen frame: I can't remember off hand how many there were, but work from one end, and gently pull to release each of the trim clips.

To replace, just position the trims, and knock them back into position: the trim clips will simply 'click' back in.

Hope this helps :o)

What do you call the retainer catches ?

Vraptor,

You may be able to push the mic wire underneath the pillar panel and the header lining without taking them off.

I managed to get the wiring to my electric boot release installed along the length of the cabin like this.

The black metal catches on the top of the windscreen frame that the softhoop latches onto.

Vraptor,

I have the mic for my mobile phone mounted at the top of the 'A' frame - see.........

..........and I was able simply to push the wire into the gap between the rubber seal & the panel.

In a similar fashion, the aerial for the key fob alarm is extended up the other 'A' frame and across the top. Simply by removing the 2 screws that hold the soft-top locators, I was able to push the wire neatly underneath.

Hi Tony,

What hands free kit do you have? I'm looking into them, and I'm looking for a decent one which isn't expensive as the "standard" £100 ones.

Holster,

Mine is nothing more than the £100 unit from Halfords - excellent value for money in my opinion. Fits my Nokia & auto turns down the radio when dialling or a call comes in. Mic works with no problems though wind noise is a slight problem when the roof is down, but no one has said that they cannot hear me so far. The whole thing was fitted within 10 minutes. The 'box-of-tricks' will sit on the tunnel under the heater - there's a nice 'tray' there!

The only negative is that Halford's mobile holder is not very good, certainly for a MGF - go to www.apttony.co.uk to see the mount I use.
