MG MGF Technical - Mike Satur Electric Boot Release for TF

Several months ago, I purchased an Electric Boot Release kit from Mike Satur for my 2004 TF. However, I have been unable to install it in my car due to some rather unhelpful / incomplete instructions and near black photocopied illustrations. Emails to Mike Satur requesting advice / help remain unanswered.

The kit I received is for an MGF. Given the different boot lids between the MGF and TF, does anyone know whether the kit will fit a TF? If by chance someone has installed this kit in their TF, I would be interested in hearing from them.

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,

Sorry, i can't find it on his page. Have you got a link?

I fittet one in my TF (not from Mike).
I've made some pics, maybe the'll help you. Have a look here:

Tony, I don't have any experience of Mike's boot release kit - but I would imagine that it is pretty similar to the one offered by others (Brown and Gammons).

Looking at Sven's excellent images (use the Babelfish universal translator for a rough and ready translation into English), you should be able to install much of the kit by using this as a guide. It should all be pretty straightforward. I *think* that all the internal panel work on the TF boot lid is identical to the MGF...

PS if your car has the round remote fob (rather than the rectangular item), then your car has the facility to fit a remote boot release...

Rob,

sorry to sound a bit slow here but which remote fob is it that will allow remote boot release?

Cheers,

Kris, its not just the fob you need its the rest of the updated alarm system too.
The new system found on 2004 and 2005 TFs is the same as that used on the ZR and ZS but for some reason MG decided not to make use of the remote boot release function on the fob like they did with the other models(in fact the TF fobs dont have the boot release button).
But it probably wouldn't be too diffecult to enable it if you have the newer alarm though by adding a boot solenoid, but you would also need fobs.

Getting the fob with the correct buttons would be easy - just a question of getting the MEMS programmed :o) As Steve indicates, the crucial thing is having the correct Alarm ECU.

I don't have the alarm wiring diagrams for the 2004 TF and ZR(or ZS) - but comparing the two should yield the correct wires in order to wire in the boot release solenoid. I would be a very neat solution! :o)

Thanks to Sven and also to Dieter for their very clear and concise instructions. I also found MGOC's instuctions to be helpful even though their's is a diferent style of release. It seems the architecture of the MGF and TF boot is slightly different which led to the confusion when the supplied template didn't fit my car. The two concerns I had with this project were firstly where did the solenoid fit and secondly how to run the wiring as unobtrusively as possible into the boot lid. I now have that information and feel confident enough to make a start. (after a stiff scotch!) Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and comments. Regards Tony
