MG MGF Technical - Mildew
With the wonderful mild wet weather we've enjoyed for the last month or two my 'f' has developed a rash of mildew on the underside of the hood. This has not caused the hood to leak but I suspect if it is left to worsen it could cost me a new hood. Does anyone know the best way of getting rid of this mildew and perhaps also suggest how it can in future be avoided? The car has latterly been parked on my drive. |

I wiped the mildew from mine with a damp cloth. N |

A very, very mild bleach or vinega solution using warm water on a J cloth. Wipe down after a couple of minutes with rinsed cloth. Stinks a bit,but does the trick. Cover your hood in future to avoid reoccurence. |

That's what happens when you leave it outside. Mine also had that problem but a quick wipe with a damp cloth brings the mildew off. It shouldn't affect the hood, either inside or outside, though. Since I started keeping it in the garage, the problem has disappeared. |

As above, although in my case a mild disinfectant solution was used and I've had no recurrence since April. |

I used a squirt of Dettox on and a damp cloth. :-) |

Thank you all for your input on this. I'm waiting for Christmas to pass and hopefully a thaw arrive to enable me to do the job. Meantime, Merry Christmas to you all! |

Hi Geoff Sorry to hear of your problem. The suggestion of vinegar should work or even try a solution of Bicarbonate of soda. Alternatly bring it out to Australia in the sun. Glad to hear you still have my old car. Regards Richard Hyde |
