MG MGF Technical - Miles per Gallon

Hi Guys,

Was just wondering what kind of MPG I should expect from a 97 MGF? Have tested it twice now and it's coming out to about 32mpg and I'm sure I read somewhere that 38 should be closer to what is expected in Extra Urban driving.

If this is the case what could be effecting the fuel econonmy?

Cheers,

32 sounds good to me - you might get better on a long un-hurried run.

It depends on your driving conditions and how you drive I suppose - don't suppose the IOW lets you cruise on a light throttle very much. Have a look at this recent thread

32mpg sounds fine to me to - my '98 VVC used to do about this when standard. It did a bit better after head porting, a bit better still after some fuel pressure regulator (FSE) tweaking on a rolling road and even better now that it's got a 4-2-1/hi-flow cat/straight through exhaust combo. So, my 32mpg has turned into more like 36mpg :-) Just waiting for the latest RR session to see if the torque/power curve's up as well :-)

Thanks for that, probably is fine then, must have been dreaming that I would get more!

That link didn't work Tony, was it saying much of note?

Cheers

nuts! it was there yesterday! It just reiterated others MPGs. 32 seems about normal for short runs, high 30s for those with longer drives and low 40s for those not trying hard enough!!

When travelling at 100 kmh on a 3 hour trip, deliberately trying to be economical, the best I've managed in my '97 VVC was 51 mpg!

My 91 VVC did 41 on an 800 mile mixed motorway and cross country run from home to Northumberland and back. You need a good long run like this to get a real gigure.
