MG MGF Technical - Missing key code

Can anyone help? I bought my P reg F about a year ago and only received 1 key and fob. For whatever reason my fob will not work any more, despite new battery. Not to worry I thought I'll use the key code to get moving again. On my security card I find I only have the radio code and nothing else. Obviously I'm heading for my dealer tommorrow but an idea of cost / time scale would be good!!
Cheers

It is little help to you, but I found that the code supplied for my car was actually wrong and the dealer had to use the diagnostic system to read it from the ECU. I don't know if it available from MG.

Good luck.

The key code is available from MG but they will obviously be loathe to supply it over the phone. I had my code checked by my dealer and it cost £21 or thereabouts.

MJ Smith,

>For whatever reason my fob will not work any more, despite new battery.

For a kick off did you follow the ionstructions for changing the battery?...

With the old battery removed and BEFORE you fit the new one, press and hold each button in turn for at least 5 seconds. Fit the new battery (+ side up) and re-assemble handset. Unlock the car using the key, then operate the handset lock button at least 4 times to re-synchronise the handset.

If this fails try re-synchronising the handset again...

With the car unlocked hold the handset close to the car, and operate either button at least 4 times (or until the door locks operate on cars with central locking) in quick succession.

If the handset continues to not work it'll probably need further investigation by the dealer. When trying to obtain the key-code from them I suggest you take proof of ownership of the car (eg. V5) and probably ID for yourself.

I've since been to Diamond in Hatfield and obtained the Emergencey Keycode. This was done v easily. All they asked for was my Reg no. I am, however, havind trouble using the code as per the instructions in the Manual. I put the code in, without any beep indicating it was wrong, the flashing light stops flashing, but when I turn the key I get the familiar beep meaning it is still immobilised.
More advice required please!

M J,

Many people have had the problem of being given the wrong code. If I recall it was down to two of the digits being one out. Eg if code given was 3456 then correct code was 4556, something like that. Have a look in the archives.

'Ang on, I'll ave a look!

OK Search in the Technical Archive for the phrase 'Alarm Immobiliser Overide' spelt like this.
That should tell you all about it.

The fault was caused by a software error on the production line. The trick is to increase the 2nd and 4th digits of the code by a value of 1

EXAMPLE

1345 becomes 1446

Many cars have the wrong code supplied by the dealer/MGR and it only comes to light in times of peril..

Hey guys, yes I did search the archives and found the +1 to 2nd and 4th number threads. It worked 1st time too. I'm happy now I can drive around now albeit without my immobilser. Diamond want about £100 + vat for a new handset and for programming. Is this about right? Or can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative?

Only other source I can think off that may be able to help is a past MGF owner. Extract from a thread in the archives Rover Blipper Key

Hey Gang, long time no speak!

I've got a question for anyone in the know...

Where can i source original un-programmed blippers from?

I have found a supplier already, but their stock is not replenishable so i have to look for another. We have just purchased a new programming system which will allow us to program virtually all new car keys including the Rover blips. Any help would be useful

All the best

Plips are £51+VAT YWX101220A
Programming is 0.4hr

Usually, with us, it comes out to just shy of £80, all in.
Dave

Thats a better price, where are you Dave?
