MG MGF Technical - Mixing tyres front and rear?

Evening all,

My F has Goodyear NCT3's all round, which are in decent nick apart from a bl**dy great screw lodged in the o/s rear... so now I'm in the market for tyres.

Following the extremely helpful tyre survey thread I'll probably go for Goodyear F1 GS-D2's on the rear and change them as a pair, but was just wondering if sticking with NCT3's on the front is an acceptable combination? They've a decent amount of tread left (no idea of how many miles, but I've put just 3500 miles on them in the year I've had the car) and am looking to preserve the old bank balance post-Christmas! Some threads in the archives suggest this set-up is OK (not specifically these tyres, but same front/rear idea), would people agree? Or should I just bite the bullet?

Thanks,

Will

you may have trouble getting gsd2s you may have to go for gsd3s

...as I understood it, Goodyear are making the GSD2s again (and have dropped the GSD3...altho' that last bit might be wrong)

BTW....what's the difference between a car tyre and 365 condoms??

One's a Goodyear, the other's a f**kin* good year!

SR - LOL!! And I think you're right on the GSD2's, even Kwik Fit have them (and GSD3's) listed on their site, guess availability might not be 100% though.

No objections to the front/rear mix then?

I would change all four tyres to GSD2s if I were you otherwise you will get a handling imbalance.

erm, am I missing something here? If the tyres are in good nick why not get a repair?

Thought about that and may get the tyre shop's view, but it's a large screw and has gone right through the tread. To be honest the rears would need changing in not too many '000 miles anyway as they're showing a fair amount of wear (particularly in the middle so I think the previous owner may have had the pressures a bit high - am running on 26 psi front and 28 rear as per the workshop manual - but that's another debate!)
