MG MGF Technical - Mk 1 to Mk II Door Card conversion
I have just bought some new door cards from Victoria at the MGF Centre and they have come with original Tweeters but no wiring. The tweeters have a special connector, which I have been unable to trace at local audio suppliers and motorist shops, including Halfords. Rover will only sell the complete loom. Has anyone done this conversion and sourced a connector supplier or managed a mod to get the tweeters working. Any advice appreciated. Chris |

Why don't you just replace the connectors with bullet or spade connectors for a cost of a few pence? |

The connection pins are actually inside a recessed housing which is part of the tweeter itself. Two thin round pins, quite close together, which require a special type of plug connector, which of course is not commercially available, thank you Rover. I may be able to get some small thin connectors inside but the smallest Halfords, Motorworld and Maplins supply are all too big. I need some small, computer type connectors unless someone has done this mod and managed to connect them in some other way. |

The wires in question come from the loom at the back of the speaker as a capacitor is fitted to the speaker/loom to provide the cross-ovre for the tweater. You would probably also need to fit this to make bet use of the tweaters. A better bet is to changw the speakers for somethig better whilst you have the car in bits. I used a set of Inifinity components. The tweaters from this can be made to fit in the factory holes with a bit of adjustment to the fitting base supplied with the speakers. If you want some more info let me know.... Cheers Paul; |

Chris, when I got my MY2000 door cards, I also obtained the part of the loom from the door as well (always handy to keep your Leatherman ® handy! ;o)) Too late now, but I'd suggest you drop Victoria a line, as I am sure she'd be able to source these cables out for you. |

I have already asked Victoria, she was not too keen to cut a wiring loom just for the connector, she thought I could get a connector from an audio shop but I have had no success. I think I will try Victoria again, maybe I should bribe her with Jaffas. |

Chris,I had the same problem with a pair of tweeters purchased from MS, no wires in my 1997VVC. I ended up scotch locking into the existing speaker cables, followed by a trip to Maplin Electronics for some very small connectors to fit the pins did the trick. They cost less than a quid for 10 but are bu**ers to fit. Sounds OK to me but I'm no boom boy.Give me a mail and I will post the spare connectors I have left, if I can find them. |

>to source these cables For sure Tyco connectors. May be OEM design as usual at all car designs ;) Anyone got a pic ? and *true* measures of the pin/socket distance ? 1/10 " or 1/5th ? |
