MG MGF Technical - Momentary loss of power...
Hi all, Now it has happend again to my VVC! When going in 3īrd flat out,(NOT touching the rev.limiter, but close) and quick changing to 4 gear there is on few and far apart occasions a total loss of power for less than a second.... Then the engine recovers without a hiccup and acceleration continues as strong as ever. My own wild guess is that the rapid pressure fluctation between fully open and shut throttle upsets the MAP-sensor for a fraction of a second. Anyone had this behavour ? Any guesses what it can be ? The car is as healthy as can be and is a strong performer with the usual "add onīs" and giving 172 hp on the rolling road. BR, Carl. |

Hi Carl, Possible there's a loose contact somewhere, making itself evident when the engine is flexing against the mountings? If you do a slow change, does the problem still occur? |

No, only on "spirited driving" with fast gearchange. Might add that I have re-worked the gearchange so fast and smooth gearchange is possible ;O) Probably this slight hesitation on very few occasions is no trouble ,more a "feature"... / Carl. |

My F begun doing that last year. A few days later the MEMS was forever gone. I sincerely hope that will not be your case. Mike |

Hi Carl, In December I have got sudden lost of power for a second during acceleration. It also happened occasionally but like in your case it wasn't at 3rd gear or during quick change. As a result in January my ignition coil melted. I have replaced both but problem occured (car was running on 2 cylinders). Someone told me that MEMS can be borken but before ordering new one I have checked wires, replaced part of them from igintion coil 1 to loom and since that time everything is OK. I not sure if it helps in your case but... |

Hi all, thanks for the input, your comments makes the future looking bright and sunny ! ;O)) More seriously, will have a total check of ignition and possible bad connections in cables etc. But still it seems to me that it might be a "feature" by the MEMS,very seldom noticed and as said only on spirited driving/gearchange at speed. / Carl. |

Carl, I'm not so sure that this is a 'feature' of MEMS - if it were, there would be more reports of this. Makes me concerned that this is a problem with your car - whether it is MEMS related, or due to some other fault, I can't say - but I wonder about the IACV and the rpm 'soft landing'? |

Errm, ... just an idea.. What about fuel amount supplied by the fuel system ?? |
