MG MGF Technical - More Then One HGF
Hi guys, As you know I have just had HGF and had it all sorted under warranty. But my question is should I expect to have another on as there are loads a people on this BBS that have had it happen more then once.. Is this really true or have they just had bad service? The bad thing is that all MGF owners have to worry about this 24/7 - why?, should I worry now even though it's just been sorted out? Regards, Mike Gibson |

It depends on who has done the repair. Hopefully you'll have the uprated gasket and steel dowels now, which , from what I have read here, seems to stop the problem. However, I don't personally think it is as bad as everyone thinks, and it's the minority of F drivers who get HGF. I know of about 8 long term F owners who have never has a problem. You just read a lot about it on a BBS because this is where people come when they need help. Fingers crossed anyway!! Cheers Paul |

Mike, second failures aren't all that common - as the stats on the HGF page show (http://www.shame.4mg.com ). As Paul says, if the work was completed competently, with the latest specification parts, then the chances of a 'repeat performance' are thankfully low. |

An HGF is not limited to F's or even to K-series engines. Other makes also have HGFs. Other makes have other 'never seen that before Sir' inherent problems. Enjoy the car Mike BUT make sure you keep the warranty up to date. |

>guys - how do I know if I have had the uprated kit fitted? - other then phoning the garage? You would be very unlucky if you managed to get an old kit fitted, they went out years ago. The diffrences are steel (rather than plastic) locating dowels, and ... erm I don't know there might be another change? As such it is compleatly obscured by the head and no way to tell once it's back together. Will |
