MG MGF Technical - Mot failure

Just failed MOT this morning because both front tyres are very bald on the inside edge, outside is like new. I know that the problem is tracking but also I have noticed in recent months that the car has been scrapping over bumps that were not a problem previously. Can anyone please help me with the following questions please:

-Which order should I get things done, tracking, tyres and then hydragas or other?

-What would you recommend as a good reasonably priced set of front tyres. The worn are F1's and the rears are NCT 5's.

-How hard will it be to find a garage around the Richmond area that has hydragas pump?

Have used local in the past but what should I advice as the set up. The car has lowering brackets and adjustable shocks fitted.

Any help appreciated.
Timothy

I would recommend get your hydragas checked first, then get your tyres, and then get your tracking sorted. Hope this helps.

New performance tyres on the front with part worn NCT5s sounds like a recipe for disaster, so budget for new tyres all round.

Timothy,
Virtually all garages will have a Hydrogas pump - it's needed for the Metro. It's very easy to have the car repressurised. My local guy operated the pump while I held the tape measure at the front wheel and told him when it was the right height. The whole job took 10 minutes and I gave him a tenner, 'cos he wasn't going to charge. Centre of front wheel to lip of wheel arch should be 368 mm plus or minus 10 mm.

Get the ride height correct first, as this affects the tracking. As for tyres, I've just fitted Toyo T1-R and have found them really excellent in the dry and wet. The Goodyears were lethal in the wet. Rob Bell's website has lots of tyre recommendations.

Ride height needs sorting first as suggested above. Just had mine done at a 'local' garage - approx £23 to get done. Car needs time to settle once pumped up so even though its a quick job to pump up takes some time to get right.

[Only problem after is the F looks more like an off roader at the correct ride height].

Tracking check needed after hydogas sorted out. Mine was OK after ride height was corrected. Was out before - as worn front tyre showed. Ride height is 'connected' to tracking, so if one is wrong the other will be too.

Seems you all missed this part of the original post.

1) Hydragas to correct pressure (400psi I seem to recall) your ride height whith lowering knuckles firred is more likely to be around 340-345mm @ correct pressure

2) New tyres all round, Toyo T1-R Proxies are good tyres for the money.

3) Tracking, check Rob Bell's site for correct settings.

Just fitted Toyo T1-R proxes all round
Great tyres for price, I ordered mine from www.mytyres.co.uk, about £175 inc vat and delivery
