MG MGF Technical - My CD-player is to deep!
Hello all! I upgraded my ICE with a Sony CDX-M770 - which I beleive has the standard ISO measures. To my big surprise it turned out to be too deep. I'm not able to push the unit all the way into the slot. Looking into the free opening, you can see a piece of metal plate at the bottom of the hole. This plate is the thing stopping the CD to go all the way in. Does anyone know if you can remove that metal plate? Is it a big job or do i have to live with my CD sticking out approximately 1cm? Appreciate help on this one! Thanks! Kindets regards, Ronny PS. From a sound perspecive, I can rally recomend this unit. /Ronny

Ronny, The unit may not be too deep - I have similar problems getting my Sony head unit into the dash. Usually its a mass of wires at the back that stop it going in. Take the central heater vent out(lever it carefully from the bottom), you will then be able too look down onto the problem and pull the wires out of the way. Paul P9 VLS

Rather, try taking the central air vent out. It's real easy. Prise out from the bottom and lift it up. It will come out just like that! Then you can attack it from the top! But my Kenwood MP3 player is a little too long as well.. won't fit.. I will have to play with it again soon to get it fit perfectly..

Added some pictures far below to the site due to the access on the ICE wiring from through the center heater. http://www.mgfcar.de/audio/index.htm

I had this problem when I fitted my Sony. The unit I bought came with a 1 inch metal rod protruding from the rear. I resolved the problem by removing the rod (unscrew) and the unit now fits snug. Praveen

Hello all! Appreciate the feedback on this topic. Paul & Dieter, I will go out to the garage tonight, removing the vent to see if there is something that is in the way or if the unit indeed is to deep. I beleive I have been careful trying to get all cablings out of the way. I even made a special slim RCA connector minimizing the depth. But you never know. With the vent remove at least I will be sure what's causing the problem and can move on from there. Praven, the rod has been un-touched and is still in it's small plastic bag it came in. Thank's for the suggestion though. Now, wehere's that screw-driver... Regards, Ronny

...I'm back from the garage. Using the web-link showing how to remove the air vent, I have identified the problem! The arial (Antenna) connector was blocking the way. Getting everything out of the way the head unit now slided smootly all the way in. Installation finilized! Thanks! /Ronny
