MG MGF Technical - My hood's stuck!
I must be the only MG driver to have spent the whole of the glorious sunny weekend with the top up! Its always been a bit temperamental, but since the winter, my MGF's hood has seized completely. WD40, praying and jiggling have done no good - any tips please? |

Is it just locking up? http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dotcomoff/home/motoring/mgf_faq/gen/car_care/hood/hood_tips.html#lockups |

Hmm, not sure. Mine gets stuck about half way down, but I'll try pushing on the central bar as suggested and see what happens. Thanks for the tip. |

Half way down - almost certainly a lock up! Mine did the same, either push the bar up (99% chance that'll sort it) or for a more permanant fix have a look here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tim.jenner/tf_hood_recall.htm Tim. |

I had the same problem with my F. I've owned it nearly a month, the hood never seemed to go all the way down, just halfway, probably because it had been sitting outside all winter. The way I get it down is the let it down halfway, the lift it gently and push it down a bit more, sometimes it doesn't budge but try lifting it back up a few inches and letting it down really slowly does the job for mine. |

With mine, it drops to maybe 70 degrees from horizontal, then I have to lift it again three inches and rotate a thinner roof bar out of the way (anticlockwise) of the heavier frontal roof bar. You *could* force it past this, but it requires no effort to lift it out of the way. HTH Jamie |

Thanks again, this sounds really promising. I was beginning to think I'd have to take it to the dreaded dealer! I'll try it tonight, rain permitting. |
