MG MGF Technical - My VVC's Timing is out where can I?
Hi guys, I'm sure that my timing is out slightly - does anyone know how much it will cost to have me VVC tuned? and where? Regards, Mike |

---- have me VVC tuned? and where? ---- MGR dealers have TestBook and can check it out and tell you what the problem is and cost the rectification. As can specialists like TechSpeed, B&G, MS etc or look under Advertisers on this BBS. Don't know what happened to "engine tuning" centres like SUN or Krypton that used to exist. |

Mike the timing cannot suddenly go out unless you have some sort of failure to cause this, maybe the performance has dropped off due to some other cause EG plugs or leads failing. Mike |

The ignition timing on cars with a crank sensor and software operated ECU cannot change. The only way the to change the ignition timing is to install a different version of the ECU computer software. You have Rover's production version of the software. The timing will not change from the day the car is built until it joins the great MG Concours in the sky. Mick |

Indeed. Oh how I miss the days of finding "Top Dead Centre" and fiddling with the contact breaker settings - NOT! |

Gotta eat my words after to-day as we had a VVC in which had the cam belts changed prior to the new owner who brought it in for a service and new HT cambolts. Whilst changing the bolts we noticed the timing marks were not aligning ditto the front gears. Further investigation reveals the cam gears must have been tightened without restraint allowing the dowel pins to take the load, partly crushing them and allowing the wheel to move before the bolt tightened ditto the front gear.Result timing out and split exhaust cam where the dowel pin sits. Saves buying verniers;-) Mike. |

As said, the ignition timing cannot change. What can make a VVC egine go "off tune"? Dirty injectors. A build up of a varnish type substance from the fuel, on the critical area of the injector tip. Solution. Have them professionaly cleaned, or soak the tips for 24 hours in carbon tetrachloride (handle with care). Mick (Member, but using my work computer). |

Interesting one mike (should be member) - after all these years and with all your experience you still come across "never seen that before" rather than TADTS. It's what makes most jobs interesting. |
