Suggest you call MGF Centre or Midland MGF (both listed as advertisers on this bbs) and ask their advice.

Both will be able to supply you with a vgc used head at a considerable saving over new. You could even get it assembled rather that just a bare head requiring valves and gear installing.

Go ask on the Lotus board. There are more 2nd hand MPi heads there when peeps upgrade to flowed VVC (or bigger) heads.

I was offered a 2nd hand VVC head for £350.
Not sure if that was good or bad, but it may help.

Erik, you went the PTP route didn't you? How's the car performing?

>>> Erik, you went the PTP route didn't you? How's the car performing? <<<

Long painfull story....

I ordered the PTP RT Sport-165 kit after the HG went on our 1.8MPi. Pre-sales and delivey were perfect and fitting was carried out by my local MG-Rover dealer.

We collected the car, just for testing as the engine was running roughly and it stalled very frequently. The last metres I needed to push the car into the garage. At that point the car couldn't get started anymore. After investigating the manual, the explanation of the 'technician', expertise from Lotus guys and the workshop manual it turned out that PTP had send me an ECU without the MAP-sensor connected to a vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold. There manual didn't state the procedure how to do this.

Anyway, perfect service of PTP provided me with an how-to guide and a set of pictures... But the car refused to start. It turned out to be the starter motor. It failed due to the zillion attempts of starting.

A new startmotor and cleaning the startplugs resulted in the car starting properly.

I collected the car on Monday... and although were still running it in, performance feels impressive. Let's wait till we explore the new rev-zone up to 7300rpm.

Cheers,

Erik

Phew! Rocky start with the start of your new engine relationship - but sounds promising for the future! Look forward to hearing more about your impressions on this PTP kit.

Curiously, as I am sure you've noticed, PTP don't seem to have the strongest reputation amongst Lotus enthusiasts - but there isn't too much wrong with their kits as far as I can see.
