MG MGF Technical - new remote central locking fob?
When i bought my F it only had one remote central locking remote. whereas in the past i have always had one for emergencies. how do i get a new one how much will it cost. Also if my remote breaks in the meantime is how do i get the car started? |

If you have your drivers manual, it gives full details on how to switch off the imobilser. Although you will also need to know your security code as well. |

n (btw what does n stand for) a new official from MGR fob will set you back about £90.00 - or so we have been told! Ted |

(guessing by the email address) i reckon it's nik ;-) |

just in case you needed that confirming yep the N is for nik. when i registered i didnt realise it would become a signature mark and i was feeling particularly lazy so i just put my initial. ps i am very impressed by the whole idea of this site and even more so by the whole community spirit and helpful attitudes of the owners. TOP JOB! |

Little tip that I swear by. Buy a spare battery for the blipper (most camera shops will stock these to save you a trip to an MGR dealer), and keep it in your wallet or one of the cubby boxes in the car. That way you'll never get caught short with a dead battery. Jim |

Another tip :- When you go out with your partner give her the second key - they invariably put it in their hand bag/purse which they never ever let out of their sight, so when you look yours in the boot she can rescue you! Only works if your partner is female:-) Ted |

Ted, I'm sure I remember you with a handbag at some time in the past. |

Yes but that was because I was visiting Lady Bracknall! Ted |

N, Had to get a new remote and key only a couple of months back, both parts from MGR: £8.00 for a key (MGR also cut it 4 me) and £93.00 for the remote. Your alarm system has to be then sorted throu the testbook. The MGR dealer did it 4 me while i waited, about 30mins in all. Iain |

Somewhere Ihave read that a Landrover or Freelander blipper works as well, only cheaper don't remember where though. Johan |

I think that Dieter may have mentioned this option Johan - more info in the archives... ;o) |

Info on cheaper options with same function came in before MGR new company got introduced. Not sure whether that differences in prices still exist. To be verified, though it's a question of the car affiliated part numbers. http://www.mgfcar.de/alarm_blipper/eblipper.htm |

One point that has crossed my mind is that blippers (and corresponding Alarm ECUs) for Jap import cars are on a different frequency to the UK ones. If I lose my blipper I may never get another one! I can find no documentation from the importer that states that mine has been changed to UK standard. Does anyone have any info on this ie re availability of blippers for Jap imports? Bruce |

Bruce, I too have a Jap re-import and have only 1 blipper. I worked out from the parts fiche that the one we want is # YWX 100870 - but I've never had 100 quid I couldn't find a better use for that I dared ask my Rover dealer to get me one :-) |

Bruce, I bought a 2nd blipper for my Jap import, it is a different frequency to the UK ones. No trouble getting one, apparently the spares for the Jap cars are held in the UK anyway - arrived at the dealers within 2 days and then programmed in the normal way! (Of course that was pre - caterpillar days!). Jason H |

Many thanks Jason and David, I do have two blippers at the moment but I was just worried in case I lost one. Bruce |
